Type of Project: University
Sun Yat-Sen, the founder of this university, endeavored to accomplish the TRANSITION between TRADITION & MODERNITY, and cultivate talents who can embrace this philosophy. We propose to translate this concept into the design of the new campus of Sun Yat-Sen University in Shenzhen by introducing a "Planning Transition" between a symbolic axis (from the memorial gate on the main plaza to the statue & museum at mountain top) and a development axis (connecting the 1st & 2nd phases), a "Landscape Transition" between the existing mountain and the new gardens, an "Ecology Transition" between the site's fengshui and new environmental systems, a "Circulation Transition" between a traditional road system and a dynamic multi-layered pedestrian system, an "Architecture Transition" between traditional stone & brick buildings (like the original campus in Guangzhou) and modern buildings.
